Being a clerk at The Body Shop in Georgetown, Washington, DC was my 1st "real" job. It was 1993 and was a college freshman. Along with my application for employment, I was also given a cardboard square and told to make something out of it and bring it with me to my interview. I made a purse with little flowers on it. I got the job. My experience there was such a positive working environment, and I'm lucky to have started out in a company like this. When so many people have horrible first work experiences, I feel lucky that I had the opportunity to work in an environment that was professional, but warm and was a model of business ethics, tolerance and a commitment to fairness. Although I never met Dame Anita and she never knew me, I feel grateful to her for the part she played in my life. (Sorry this is so long).
