Bernice Johnson Tribute

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

Bernice Johnson, a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great, great, grandmother lived a vibrant life.  She was the daughter of the late Elizabeth and Henry Clay Frazier. Bernice was born on May 28, 1920 in Birmingham, Alabama. 

Bernice attended the Seventh-day Adventist School up until the twelfth grade.  She was unable to graduate because both of her parents became ill. Shortly, after the death of her father, she had the responsibility of caring for her mother and younger brother. During that time Bernice and her family  faced many hardships, and eventually they decided to relocate to New York City to begin a new life.

In 1941 Bernice met and married James Johnson and from this union they had two children, Sandra and Michael. She was a devoted mother and her life was centered on her family. At the age of 47 she began a career at the United States Post office in Manhattan where she worked as a mail handler.  She retired after 20 years of service and continued to enjoy a full life.

Bernice moved to New Jersey so that she would be close to both of her children. Over the years they spent quality time as a family. She supported her daughter and together they enjoyed a wonderful mother-daughter relationship. They spent many hours working side by side doing charitable work.

Remaining to cherish her sweet loving memories are: her daughter, Sandra Conroy, four grandchildren, Andre, Michael, Kysha, and Teysha, thirteen great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
