Bethany Wood Tribute

Two year old Bethany from Leasowe died after being hit by a car on Monday afternoon.

She collided with an orange-coloured Citroen Saxo car as she played out with friends on a common in Wilkes Avenue. The driver stopped at the scene.

Emergency services arrived and Bethany was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital where she later died.

A postmortem was due to have been carried out on Tuesday and an inquest is expected to open later this week.

Earlier that afternoon, Bethany had visited Leasowe Early Years Centre, the school she was due to attend in September.

Described by friends as a little princess, Bethany, who would have turned three on July 11, had a four-year-old brother Jack and 13-year-old sister, Rachael.

Her mother Mary Wood, who is expecting a fourth child, is believed to be being comforted by Bethany’s grandmother Joyce Wood, from Moreton.

“The whole community is pretty much in a state of shock,” said one neighbour.

“Bethany was a gorgeous little thing with blonde hair and blue eyes and everyone who knew her just adored her.

“Youngsters aren’t supposed to go like this.

“It’s such a tragic thing. It’s the last thing anyone would expect to happen and no one can quite believe it.”
