About
Brennon Michael Putman, 14-days old
Brennon was welcomed into life on January 18th to two loving parents, two sisters, one brother, grandparents, aunts, uncles & others, all eager for his arrival :). Brennon was born at Huntsville Hospital (Huntsville, Alabama), a facility which has had thousands of dollars raised/donated to provide special eqpt to care for premature infants. Although born early, doctors said he was healthy; he never even required oxygen because, amazingly, his lungs were mature right from birth.
Brennon was nursing well & looked very healthy as you can see in the picture here but was under 5 lbs. He was released within a week of birth to came home. He was doing well until the early morning hours of Sunday, February 1st, when his mommy discovered him unresponsive. His daddy immediately began performing CPR & 911 was called. Help then responded & he was transported by ambulance to ECM hospital, Florence, AL, where he was pronounced deceased. Apparently God had a different plan for this precious little boy & called him to Heaven. We know he is with God but his mommy, daddy, & family/friends are all left with questions & pain from the loss.
His premature arrival & efforts to prevent his contacting any illness meant extended family & friends never had the opportunity to meet little Brennon, but we fell in love with him just from the pictures, particularly the one shown here which was taken when he was just hours old. Just from the glow of happiness his proud parents had when he arrived was enough to lighten a room! He was a miniture image of his daddy!
A burial service for Brennon was held on Wednesday following his death. He was a beautiful, peaceful little "perfect-looking" Angel lying there dressed in his little blue & white outfit.
An account established at Listerhill Credit Union (Florence, AL) for donations to assist with expenses was established; this would help to ease the financial burden.
Brennon's family are believers in God and the strength of prayer. We request you please remember Brennon's heartbroken parents, Jason & Jessica, & other family members in your daily prayers. This was a very unexpected & tragic event, one that has left this family devistated. Only God can ease the pain & help us all to come to grips with this. We know God always knows best, but as humans we cannot always just accept this fact without the questions, blame, anger & pain we feel when tragedy takes the ones we love most.
Brennon was healthy but apparently just stopped breathing as is too often common in infants, particularly premees. We now question why Huntsville Hospital, well-known for its NICU special PREMEE FACILITY, allowed a 6-wk- early, very tiny 4-lb baby to be released so soon after birth (there was medial coverage so that was not the issue).
-And, more importantly we question why... not one doctor or any staff member even mentioned a monitor or CPAP machine could ensure Brennon's parents would be alerted should he stop breathing {which seems to be so common in these tiny premature babies}.
Brennon's mommy & daddy did absolutely everything they knew to ensure he was well cared-for, loved, warm, dry; fed with breast milk to ensure he could get vital nutrients. It was NOT their responsibility to know to ask or otherwise insist the hospital arrange to send Brennon home with a monitor to alert should he stop breathing.
It is my sincere hope Jason & Jessica (Brennon's parents) will turn their hurt & blame into anger directed at the hospital & doctors or even at the SIDS illness itself, instead of toward themselves, as loving parents often do; use this tragedy to save future infant lives.
Finally, I have always believed something good comes from everything. Perhaps this tragedy is also a lesson-learned for the medical field. I hope it will help to ensure not one more baby is lost, thereby taking actions necessary in making easily available to parents a breathing monitor {CPAP} (by rental or whatever means necessary) to go home with each newborn, & the precise instructions to the parent/ care-giver(s). Perhaps each parent can soon be educated on the possibility of SIDS & what actions can be taken to minimize the chances for a SIDS occurance.
I believe all expectant parents should be trained in infant CPR with classes taught weekly to ensure availability in a timely manner before a baby is born or at least before the baby is dismissed to go home.
