Cara Burke Tribute

The 17-year-old was killed by her Brazilian boyfriend Mohammed D'Ali Carvalho dos Santos, 20, and her torso was found in a suitcase near a river in the city of Goiania last Tuesday.

Brazilian police have now confirmed they have recovered a number of body parts beside a remote part of the river near the city.

A labourer walking in the area discovered a leg belonging to the 17-year-old, before police then searched the area finding her forearms and head.

Inspector Carlos Raimundo Batista said he was confident the body parts were Cara's.

Police say dos Santos, killed Cara, from Southfields, south-west London, because she threatened to tell his family that he was addicted to cocaine and dealing the drug.

Santos has admitted to police he does not remember most of what happened the night Cara died because he was high on cocaine.

Police found graphic photos of the murder on dos Santos' mobile phone and said he had admitted to killing Cara with a single stab wound using a butcher's knife with a 25cm blade.

Police have also accused dos Santos of attempting to bribe officers with 70,000 reals (about £20,000).

Meanwhile the mother of Cara has been told she must pay up to £6,500 to have her daughter's body flown back to Britain.

But Anne-Marie Burke, 53 says she cannot afford it on her £74 a week benefits, and fears the teenager's remains will be stranded abroad.

Brazilian officials have refused to pay for the repatriation while British officials are also reportedly refusing to contribute.

Anne-Marie said: "My baby's in bits in Brazil. All I want is to have her home so I can give her a proper burial in dignity.

"I don't have that sort of money. How is a mother supposed to cope?"
