About

Dedicated to his country

Daniel A.C. McGuire, USMC, 19, of Mashpee, was killed in action on Aug. 14, 2008, while conducting combat operations in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq. He was the son of Mark and Karen "Kae" McGuire.

He was born in Middleboro, moved to Mashpee as a toddler, and attended Heritage Christian Pre-School and Mashpee public schools, graduating in the class of 2007. A longtime attendee of Christ Chapel in Centerville, he served in Vacation Bible School as an usher and participated in the youth group. He excelled in academics and was a multiple recipient of the Samuel B. Davis Good Manners Award. He earned a letterman's jacket by excelling on the MCAS exam. He played lacrosse for Mashpee High School and enjoyed participating in the Blue Falcon Theatre Group. He was best known for his portrayal of Edward P. Dowd in its production of "Harvey." He sang with the Mashpee High School concert choir. A longtime Boy Scout, he achieved the rank of Life Scout, was a member of the ABAKE-MI-SA-NA-KI Lodge of the Order of the Arrow, and earned his God and Country award. He created the flag retirement boxes in place in municipal buildings in Mashpee. He loved sketching, woodcarving, reading, and writing. Daniel's dedication to God, family, and country made him a dedicated friend to all who knew him.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his brothers, Samuel, Stephen, and Benjamin, all of Mashpee; brothers-in-heart, SPC Timothy Brainard of Colorado and James Brainard of Middleboro; grandparents, Bob and Hilda Buck of Middleboro, and Julia McGuire and the late William McGuire of Quincy; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

With Greatest Respect

On Memorial Day of 2010 President Obama asked people on Facebook to donate their status for the day to a soldier who had been lost in battle. Since I do not personally know a soldier I was given a random name to represent for the day, this soldier was PFC Daniel Aaron Carrier McGuire. I have been unable to get this young man out of my head all day. Finding this tribute site was a result of a search for more information about Daniel. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family & friends as well as all those who served with this fine soldier. I will think of him often and carry his memory in my heart. I wish I could have known him after reading more about him.

SGT Todd Bush's Family Memories

I don't have a personal memory of Daniel, but my husband has many. He was with Daniel that night and worked to revive him for 45 min. Todd still speaks highly of Mcguire and thinks about him often. We actually gave birth to our daughter Chloe on August 14, 2009, a year to the day of his passing. Our family hopes that all who knew and love him are at peace.

Time To End

ALL the bloodshed overseas. This was someones baby. I mean baby. He was too young but he's now our hero. Hope things are better now for the family. Take care and God Bless All.
