Daoine

She was born in Kyoto, Japan, on March 19, 1987, the daughter of the late J. Ward and Setsuko Rafferty. She lived most of her life in the U.S., arriving in February 1988. She went back to Japan in 1994 for a short visit and returned in 1996 to live in this area. She attended Old Lyme High School through her junior year, later graduating from New London High School. She was a very talented sculptor who was awarded two scholarships from the Lyme Academy. Some of her artwork was exhibited in the Mystic Art Gallery and the Hygienic Art Gallery. She excelled in drama, which she took at the Garde Arts Theater. She was very enthusiastic and intelligent with a good sense of humor. She was a gourmet cook. She had a tremendous love for the feline world and would bring home every stray cat and even a dog. She had a great love for traveling and traveled extensively with her father, and later Randee Smith.

She is survived by her grandmother, Genevieve Rafferty, with whom she lived in her early years; and her sister, Seana Rafferty Hanson and husband, Stuart, from West Virginia. She is also survived by Randee Smith, with whom she lived in her later years.
