Q. What was david henry young's first job? Did he/she like it?
A. Dad went to Croydon School of Building in his later school years and i think he probably enjoyed most types of building projects but as his close family know, we all think he might have been allergic to a spirit level!!!! This is a bit of a standing joke in our family and he would laugh at this too i think.
In dad's early years he was a medic in the RAF and spent time in different countries, his favourite one being Gibralter, or Gib as he called it. He often talked about his time in the RAF and had lots of fond memories of it..

Q. Did david henry young have a philosophy on life? Something he/she always said?
Q. What were david henry young's religious or spiritual beliefs?
Q. Was david henry young athletic? Attend sports games?
A. Dad had many passions. He loved motorbikes. We were never more that a few feet away from a race track when we were kids!!! He loved Canals and Waterways. He was a keen fisherman, though i'm sure many times that he went off fishing and came back with mackerel that he quickly nipped to the local Safeways Store!!!
He loved race walking. I can always remember going to places like battersea park and watching dad race walk. Those people look so funny, half running and half walking!
Dad's other passion was helping others. I don't think there was one old lady left in south norwood who dad had not done some form of help for ie fixing a slate on the roof, painting etc. He know absolutely everyone there was to know in the area and had probably helped them out at one time or another. Sadly though his DIY skills did not seem to venture to 107!!!!! Ask his family!
Dad was a great believer in trying to right the wrongs of the world and he belonged to many organizations designed to helping the older citizens of the countries. I can remember him campaigning and protesting outside the local post office when they were trying to shut it down. It was a bloody freezing day, he was the only one who turned up but it didnt phase him. I took him a flask of coffee.
He belonged to most London based organizations, as did his sister Sybil, to help the elderly and spent nearly all his spare time in his last few years campaigning especially for more toilets in towns. Dad was hardly at home ever in the year or so before his death, he would always be campaigning at some town hall or such like.

A. Dad was never one for foreign travel. He loved to stay in good old blighty, Weymouth, Devon, Dorset and Cornwall were all his favourites and also sunny Cardiff where he spent many breaks with his daughter Debbie and her family.
I particularly remember a holiday to Newquay in April 2003 which our family (Sue, Kev, Corrie and Ryan) went on with dad. It was to Monkey Tree Caravan Park which was owned by the Walkers, a lovely family that we had met in Kenya the October of the previous year. Dad was so impressed by the caravans, the fact that they had all mod cons etc. Everyone who knew dad knew that he usually only went away in his little homemade Ford Transit camper van. All in his road will always remember the little glass window with the fox toy and other toys in the window. My children and I spent many days out in this famous old camper. Dad enjoyed nothing more that getting out of south norwood and off on the open road.
