About
To "Day"
David Wares, 22, was near his house in Melyd Avenue, Prestatyn when his Peugeot 206 hit a wall.
Two other cars were involved in the crash, on the A547 Meliden Road. It is not thought anyone else was badly hurt.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but could not save David.
Police later said they had arrested a 20-year-old local man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has now been released on police bail.
Scores of floral tributes lined the street corner near where David’s car hit, and the Welsh flag at the Graig Park country club where he worked with his mum was lowered to half mast.
Throughout the day a stream of mourners shed tears and shared hugs as they remembered popular David, known to friends as “Day”.
Among the emotional tributes, one read: “Heaven just accepted another angel, will miss you mate.
Another said: “I still can’t believe it – you didn’t deserve this at all. You were one of the nicest, genuine guys I have ever known, and would do anything in the world to reverse what has happened.
“You were like one of the family and always will be, love always, Amie .”
One family friend wrote: “Rest in peace David. I will always remember you as that beautiful little boy I carried around on holiday many years ago. God bless.”
A work colleague wrote: “Day, Can’t believe you’ve been taken from us. Graig Park won’t be the same without you. Love you and miss you loads. R.I.P you will never be forgotten.”
Former Prestatyn High pupil David was the eldest son of the town’s Central Surgery GP Dr Neil Wares.
David leaves behind his mum Edwina, dad Neil, younger brother Cameron and sister Jenny. The family were too upset to talk yesterday.
