About
Father killed himself and family
crime reporter TORONTO STAR
Autopsies this weekend confirmed that the patriarch of a Scarborough family stabbed to death his wife and two adult children before shooting himself.
Police confirmed Sunday that the tragedy, which unfolded last week in a tidy bungalow on Welwyn Ave., near Ellesmere and Markham Rd., was a triple-murder suicide.
Police have also confirmed the identites of the murder victims as Wanda Delong, 64, Richard Delong, 38, and Elizabeth Tompkins, 44.
Keith Delong, 66, committed suicide, police said.
A dog, a poodle named Charlotte, was also found dead at the scene.
Initially, police took Tompkins' husband James, who called 911, into custody, but released him 15 hours later with no charges.
Friends and neighbours continue to be shocked by Keith Delong's behaviour, maintaining he must have "snapped" in order "to do this to his family."
There is speculation that Keith and wife Wanda were in the grips of financial turmoil - neither has been working full time for at least a decade and they remortgaged their home in September for $240,000.
