About

The story of a TRULY Great Man

Dennis was born on June 18th, 1948 in Scott County Tn to Odie Fred Ellis and Margie Martin Ellis. Dennis became the father of 5 children; Kim, David, Tim, Jody, and Marty.......But to his kids, he was just called DAD. And a wonderful Dad he was. To his grandkids he went by many names depending on their ages and how well they could speak. He went by Grandpa, to some he was Papaw.....but I personally think that his favorite name was Papaw D. He was an affectionate and loving Dad and Papaw. He was never selfish, never mean, and always happy to see and hear from all of his babies. He was not a formal man. He loved without expectation or regret. He just loved. He was generous to a fault. The man that you saw in public was the same man his family saw in private. He was fun to be with and was seldom without a smile. For Dennis family was his whole life, and his whole life was his family. Never has there ever been a brother who loved his brothers and sisters so much. Dennis would do anything for any of them. He would protect them, see to their needs if he could and he encouraged them to be the best they could be. They were the reason he got up in the morning, and they were the reasons he both smiled and secretely worried. He wanted all of his brothers and sisters to be happy and to know that they were loved. He was the guy in the family that you looked forward to seeing at the family reunions, cuz you knew he was gonna be up to something. This is a place for his family to come and tell those great stories....after all you know that he plotted from year to year what tricks he was going to play on you. I know that if anyone could get to heaven, this man is there. This generous, loving, and compassionate man must have crowns beyond measure. Just know that he loved all of you. Use this site as often as you wish. Leave comments, pictures, or just come visit his memory here. I will try to get as many pictures up for you as I can. If you have pictures and would like them up, but don't know how to put them on, let us know. Together we can figure it out. And most importantly...... Dennis loved all of his family. Feel free to upload pictures of all the Ellis and Martin family. Not just pictures of him. He loved seeing all of you. It is our hope that we can have some of of his entire family on here for you to see when you come visit.....I know that is what he would want. That is the reason he looked forward to those family reunions so much! He just wanted all of you to be together.   : ]

Another Year Gone Without You

Stephanie Apr 23, 2012

Another year has past since you left, and so much has happened in the time that you have been gone. Not a day goes by that you are not thought of, and missed. Something good will happen and I just want to pick up the phone to call you to tell you. Sometimes Jody will be doing something, and be a little unsure of himselt, and he will say, "I sure wish I could call Dad and ask him about this". Your grandson's are turning out to be fine young men. You would be so proud of them and Jody too, Tyler and Luke miss you. Jody misses you. I miss you. We all miss you so much Papaw D. I think what I loved, and now miss most about you was your love for others. I have never met another Dad, Grandpa, or Father-in-law with as much love in his heart as you. Jody reminds me of you so much. The way he talks and his actions. I am sure you would be happy to know that he is carrying on that Ellis tradition of love for others. And sometimes he even pulls those Ellis pranks too. I know you must be up there playing pranks on the Angels, and making everyone smile. We are so blessed to have had the honor of calling you Dad, and Grandpa. We love you and we miss you Papaw D, but we find comfort in knowing that we will see you again someday.
Love,
Jody, Steph, and the boys

Just a note

Stephanie Apr 24, 2009

The memories listed below are Tyler's memories of Ridin in Papaw's Corvette. And Luke's memory of flying airplanes with his Papaw. They miss their Papaw very much, and I know that they will never forget how much he loved them.

When I was flying airplanes with Papaw D

Stephanie Apr 24, 2009

My best memory of being with my Papaw was when we went flying airplanes in Huntsville. He had all these remote control airplanes and everybody was flying them. I started trying to shoot them out of the sky. Papaw was laughing and laughing cuz I was shooting at Brother's airplane. I miss him alot. He made me smile. I love my Papaw D.

Riding in Papaw's Corvette

Stephanie Apr 24, 2009

I remember Papaw taking me to Movie Gallery every weekend in his Corvette. He would take to me to the grocery store and always buy me what ever I wanted. We would come out with toys, Ice Cream, and vienna sausage. Papaw would make dinosaur pancakes for me every morning. Grandma Pam would always ask us if we were hot rodding in the Corvette...... I would laugh and tell her, " Yeah, Grandma, Papaw was hot rodding in your Corvette!!!" Ha! Ha!
