Derek Hamilton and Martin Van Rensburg Tribute

The families of two men who died of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning a cabin at an isolated rural camping ground outside of Raglan in the weekend have spoken of the loved ones they have lost.

Spokesmen for the bereaved families, Mike Van Biljon said Derek Hamilton of Auckland celebrated his 50th birthday last week.

Married with 16 and 20-year-old daughters Derek was worked in the field of procurement and is described as a wonderful husband and fantastic father.

A fanatical sportsman and outstanding mentor with unquestionable morals and ethics Derek is described as supporting his family in every way possible.

Mr Van Biljon said Martin Van Rensburg, 37, left behind a wife who is deeply upset at his loss.

Working in management Martin is described as being a very likeable, well balanced guy in all areas of life who had an amazing calming effect on people and was very sincere.

He was passionate about all outdoor adventure and totally giving of himself.

The third man in the cabin at the time of the tragedy, Jayson Basson, 33 of Hamilton is in a stable condition in hospital and it is hoped he will be released home soon.

Married with two daughters the couple have a third child on the way.

Mr Van Biljon said the families affected by this tragedy were understandably upset by what had happened and wished their privacy to be respected to allow them to grieve.

Both men's deaths have been referred to the Coroner and the results of a post-mortem carried on Monday are yet to be released.
