Q. How did people see Devon Slade Norinco – class clown, bookworm, social butterfly?
A. At first glance, people would see a very sober, quiet and even cold person. However, if you knew him, you would realize how much he loved the brighter side of life. His favorite movies and TV shows were comedies, he was happy with just his music and family, and he loved scary movies just because they made him jump. It wasn't often he cracked a stranger a smile, a laugh or even a word, but Devon was a loving, finer soul once he warmed up to you.

Q. What is a funny childhood memory you have of Devon Slade Norinco ?
A. When Devon and his sister were three, we went up to Washington to go to a lake my mother lived by. When they were playing, Devon stepped into a fire ant hill. Since he hated bugs from the start, he started screaming and I was going to see what was wrong before my mom intervened. She took Devon, whipped off his swimming trunks and started swatting the ants off. When the ants finally were shooed off and my mom was looking for bites, he looked down at her with some kind of gratitude. He said in the cutest little voice, "THANK you, Grandma!". It sounded like she had saved his life, which was cute/funny to my husband and I.

A. Devon firmly believed that family was the most important thing in life. I had fed him that advice and he took it quite seriously to his advantage. For that, I was so proud of him. He also wanted everyone to just live the simple life. He did it, and wanted everyone else to, too.

A. Despite my husband's heavily Catholic childhood, Devon insisted that God didn't exist. "If God was real, good things would happen, not bad things.", he once told me. To my horror, sometimes I wonder if this is why he died so young, and on his eleventh birthday. Also to my horror, sometimes I think he might have been right.
