About Dr. Akingboju Gbayisomore
Farewell POEM for Dr Akingboju Gbayisomore
Farewell Baysimore
Hi Doc - Baysimore
My brother, my friend, our friend, my best man, my confidant, my doctor, my advisor, my bosom buddy pal: Oh how we miss you! Our hearts went with you when told you were gone. In a moment, in a twinkling of an eye, you left us forever.
I came and found you lying in peace. I called you, Baysimore… Baysimore. I touched you, I kissed you but, you did not answer. You did not say Hi Joe. For indeed you were gone. I looked out the window but, you were not there. You ascended to Heaven in a chariot of fire accompanied by many legions of angels. You were called. You were summoned before our Lord, God Almighty. Before our Lord God Jesus, whom your soul, (our soul) loves and always longed to see.
You remember, I’m sure, one day you told me that often times in prayer you would stretch out your hand to touch and to hold the hand of Jesus; He who died for you, for your salvation. He always seemed to be in the room with you.
Your faith was strong enough to move mountains – even as Daniel’s faith. Oh my brother, my friend, my best man, my doctor, my bosom buddy pal, if only you could have stayed a little longer... If only you could be with us a little while longer with your 10,000 friends. But, alas! Your mansion was ready and the Lord our God commanded that you should come…that you must come home. And so, you obeyed immediately in grace and beauty.
The day you left the sky and clouds knew - for they were grey and filled with sadness. Then the rain came as tears for your departure. We too were sad. We were numb and stared in disbelief. We too cried. For we miss you, our brother. If only you left your smile in a bottle, that we might see it…and that we might share it. I still hear you calling me. Hey Joe! And I still answer, Hey, Baysimore! But, I cannot see you from your home in paradise. What a mighty mansion it must be!
Your spirit was so gentle and gracious…always too eager to give, to share, to teach and to help. I am sure you remember that night when I had nowhere to lay my head. What a friend you were. Remember, I slept on your bed while you slept on the couch? What a friend indeed; my bosom buddy pal. We had good times to share. You remember the 1st day I met my wife, we went to your home to a party. You had the best time at my wedding. You had the biggest smile. You were my best man.
You were a Real Man, a Great Husband; Terrific Father; the Ultimate Family Man; an example. You loved your Children and Your Wife, with an everlasting love.
Your patients did not leave you while you were sick. For you were more than their doctor, a friend and consoler. Your friends and colleagues and family all miss you. You left a void in our hearts. We talk about you, always in disbelief; that you are no longer with us. We are still unable to comprehend (to understand) but, God knows best.
Oh Lord God, we thank you for your son Akingboju Gbayisomore, our brother, for having known him; if only for a short while. We thank You and praise You for sharing him with us Lord; if only for a moment. We Praise You Lord God for the many gifts You gave us in him: his great big smile, his warmth, his knowledge, his intelligence, his generosity; his thoughtfulness and his love. Where shall we find another? Even as he praised You to the very end. Even in his pain and suffering, like Job, he praised and thanked You! “Thank You God, Thank You Jesus!” He would pray frequently. Thank you Dear God for Your dear son Akingboju.
My brother and our friends. We are consoled in the words of God which tells us “The day of death is better than the day of one’s birth” Ecclesiastes 7:1. And that “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” Psalm 116:15.
Good bye, so long, farewell Baysimore: My brother, my friend, my confidant, my doctor, my bosom buddy pal, until we meet again at Jesus’ feet.
“In the sweet bye and bye, we shall meet on that beautiful shore,
In the sweet bye and bye, we shall meet in that beautiful land.”
In Loving Memory –
Dr. Joseph V. Campbell, MD
