Strange Bedfellows
This Mother's Day Tribute to my mother is special. Why? Because The Golden Girls was a show we both enjoyed watching each week. I was Dorothy and my mom was like Sophia. My mom was a good mother but has some quirks about her: sarcastic, sometimes insenstive to my feelings but overall she loved me dearly, worried about me and others taking advantange of me, protected me and always had something funny to say about life. My personality resembling Dorothy was similar as well: Not a lot of boyfriends and/or dates and was a homebody. My mother was always trying to "find me a good husband" which sometimes was embarrassing. I worked, was fairly intelligent (I guess!!) but WAS NOT knocked up in high school and married the first man I met....unlike Dorothy. When Estelle Getty passed away last year, I was saddened but realized she was in last stages of Alzheimer's so it didn't bother me as much. But...when Bea Arthur passed, I was actually hurt because I didn't know she was sick and she was my character. She was so funny, caring, more intelligent than Blanche and Rose and tolerant of Sophia's cruel jokes. She will definitely be missed.
