Emily Jordan Tribute

I was saddened to hear of the loss of your daughter Emily. My prayers and thoughts go out to your family.

I travelled to New Zealand in 2005. I also went riverboarding with that company in Queenstown. It was the most terrifying experience. I got sucked under in a whirlpool. The guide had to pull me out as I was close to drowning.

This is a very dangerous sport and needs to come to the public eye.

The day this terrible thing happened I was driving past. I just couldn't believe the beauty, it was like euphoria. the energy was just so incredible. It wasn't until I got back, that i realized what this incredible feeling was.I must have been tuned in as Emily was passing. it was very beautiful.
Unfortunately, that day was to be the last i would see my Scottish born son, as on the 10th of May, he met his fate in a 4WD mishap up in the Southland mountains.He was crushed to death by the vehicle in which he was a back seat passenger. The driver got off with it. I couldn't believe it. nothing. these lads here are allowed to tear around the mountains, here, not wearing seat belts, no special driving instruction, drinking. loud music. to them it is a great joke, and these lads just kept going on their trip after my sons body had been flown off in a helicopter. Liam was born in Scotland, bought up in the countryside, and went to Rannoch boarding school. he followed me back to NZ, and a year to the day he started working here, I am burying him. the local lads have killed him.
What can i do? no one will help. i have spent thousands on lawyers. I didn't even know this sort of thing went on. What are the laws here. Someone said there are no laws out there., and that's what they think, they just do what they like and get away with it.
yes I am still upset, I am still grieving I don't know what to do, No one will help me. they say that's just an accident, get over it.
What can I do can someone please help me.
no inquest, I haven't got money to sue, if that can be done in NZ.
I just don't understand how people can get away with things like this.

i really didnt know you at all. i am a 13 year old girl and i can relate to this sadden story. my uncle was the only one i could go to when i needed to, and he drowned swimming , when i saw him he made my day, and for me to read the story about this beautiful girl well woman brought back so many memories. sorry for her lost, and like i said i didnt know her at all but she will be missed by me. i pray for the family and her friends cause i truly know how you are all feeling.

A Queenstown river boarding operator hadn't told would-be adventurers how to escape if trapped under rocks before a trip which ended in the drowning of an English tourist, a court was told today.

Maritime New Zealand prosecutors told Queenstown District Court that Mad Dog River Boarding director Brad McLeod's boat carried neither throw-bags nor ropes the day 21-year-old British woman Emily Jordan drowned, Radio New Zealand reported.

The company was taking tourists on excursions when the river level was unusually low and had not briefed them on how to escape if trapped when riding on the modified wakeboard, the court was told.

McLeod and his company face three charges each over Ms Jordan's death on the Kawarau River Gorge last April. McLeod denied all charges. If found guilty, each conviction carried a fine of up to $250,000.

The tourist had been under water for about 20 minutes before a boat operated by another company came along. The crew of the second boat used ropes to retrieve her body.

The incident was especially harrowing for her boyfriend, who was standing on the riverbank while rescuers recovered her corpse, the court was told.

Today was first day of the hearing, which was expected to take five days

When Em entered a room she infected everyone with her smile and happiness. she was simply too sweet a girl with so much love to give out to everyone. Our AO sporting days -whether it was lax, netball, rounders....we laughed our way through it all. Spanish would never have been the same without her .Em lived life to the full. her giggles will be echoing in my ears forever. love u em.xxxxxxx
