About

tragedy

A Canadian man has been charged with the murders of his wife and four children in Mason, Ohio.

The Canadian woman and her children died in a house fire Friday night. Ohio police have now charged her 34-year-old husband, Michael Veillette, with four counts of aggravated murder, one count of murder, and aggravated arson.

The victims are 33-year-old Nadya Ferrari-Veillette, her 8-year-old daughter, Marguarite, and her 4-year-old son, Vincent. Ferrari-Veillette's 3-year-old twins -- Jacob and Mia -- also died.

The family had been living in Mason -- 30 kilometres northeast of Cincinnati -- for the past two years. Police say they were originally from Laval, Quebec.

A neighbor told local news crews he was not aware of any trouble at the home before Friday night's incident. Police don't have a motive and they say their investigation is not yet complete.

Ferrari-Veillette worked in a mall and Veillette designs engines. Neighbors said he would spend most of his time travelling for his job and was home only a few days a month.

Marguarite was a student at Mason Heights Elementary School. Her principal -- Eric Messer -- told The Associated Press that "her mother was an amazing parent. Everyone is in shock. It's such a tragedy."

Memories

Colors Cafe

Emily Jun 02, 2010

We were out jogging one day. Do you remember, Nadya? You were telling me how you had a dream to make pastries and chocolate delights in your own pastry shop some day. As we rounded the corner we saw some people moving new things into a new cafe. I asked you, "I wonder if they have those kind of desserts in there." But they weren't open yet. We talked to the owner and you told him about your talent with pastries. He said, "Bring me some samples and I'll let you know if they fit on the menu." Oh my gosh! Were they ever good! And I got to have the first taste! Never before, and never since have I ever tasted anything that good! I'm so glad you could fulfill part of your dream. Colors Cafe got the best deal in the world when they got you!

How you loved him

Emily Jun 02, 2010

Nadya, all who knew you knew that you only had love in your heart. I remember how much you loved Michel... how you worked so hard to be able to sing "Que Jetaime" on your Italian anniversary cruise. You must have sang that song 1000 times. And each time I heard you sing it there was more love and sincerity. You told me you were praying for him to have faith in God. I hope and pray that in his last moments he found it.

I laugh when I think about how hard you laughed when you tried to teach me to use my sewing machine! And how hard we both laughed when we tried to exercise to some of those crazy exercise videos. I miss the fun we could have had, but I look forward to what Jesus has planned for us in Heaven! I know chocolate is on the menu!

Dinner and a murder

Jeff Jan 13, 2010

When we were invited to dinner with Nadya and Michelle, it was a grand event. Nadya cooked a multi course meal, and we enjoyed with a few other couples an evening of great laughter and delicious food. We met other good friends and were amazed at the clues and tastes as we attempted to solve the murder. Violence in their home was the last thing to expect, and two years later the void left in our lives makes it virtually impossible to drive near their street. Our hearts still pray for his mother and her parents, as they are left now with painful memories of the wreck and then these deaths. Yet somehow, in the great laughter from that night will help us remember the fun time we had together. They touched so many hearts and affected an entire town in a short period of time. We will never forget this family!
