A. Dad loved the Navy because it was adventure, on the wide open sea, and it was kind of like having a family, all together on one ship, working together, and there was structure.

A. Yup, Daddy loved his old movies....anything with John Wayne, Clark Gable, Steve McQueen. I remember watching all those movies with him as a kid, & I still enjoy watching them now. Daddy couldn't enjoy a movie if the character's actions went against his moral code. : ) He did, tho, like a couple modern-day actors....Tom Hanks, Sylvester Stallone.....one of the last movies he watched was "Rambo" with his boy Nelson, they were so cute together, & so alike....just a coupla macho guys admiring Stallone's physical strength & shape. : )

Q. What did George William Baker want to be when he/she grew up?
A. I know he tried out to be a police man, and I can't remember why he didn't. I think it was a height/weight thing at that time (seems like I see a lot of smaller police men lately, either that or fat!). But I think he thought he'd like to do that, or continue in the Navy. But ,these aren't condusive to family life, so he settled for driving and security work. He was good at these cuz he would take no guff from anybody. He's the kind of guy you would want as a bus driver for sure!
botiquin (Jun 21, 2008)
A. To write a little on Susan's answer below me, I bet Dad looked into the police force and decided against it. Obviously I don't know, but when I joined the marines, I noticed the arrogance and the attitude that flourished throughout, and I think that's the way the police force is too for the most part. After all, many policemen are former marines. But I could not work with the marines and fit in there. I was tough and all that, but couldn't relate to all this overly aggressive, looking down on others type shit. That's why I left in the end, and I'm thinking maybe that's why Dad chose work that was a little bit more low key.

A. Unfortunately, not very great. When he was 6, and living in an apt. with his mom, dad and 4 sisters, something happened that affected his whole life. His dad worked late nights, dishwashing at a club. The little 6 yr old went to sleep happily, with his mom and sisters there with him, and woke up with no one, dad not home yet and mom and sisters gone. His mom had left his dad and taken all 4 of her daughters with her, but left her son. Can you imagine how scarey and devistating this was for him?

A. His children and former wife were all very close. This made him happy. Over the years, he continued to try to get us all together at once, or at least as many as possible since we all lived in different places at times. But we were always a close knit family, no matter where we lived.
