Obituary of George F. Chapman

George Frederick Chapman
11-2-1964   5-27-2009

George F. Chapman died May 27th of an accident in Grand Junction.  He was born November 2nd, 1964 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Denman and Betty Chapman, the seventh of seven children.  He moved with family to Grand Junction in 1972 from San Diego, California.  George graduated from Fruita Monument High School and attended Mesa State College.  He was a talented mechanic who, in addition to his pet projects, had his own business providing automotive and residential mechanical services.

George loved to ski, ride a motorcycle, sun and surf, and music.  Most of all, he loved to make people laugh.  George’s zest and flair for living earned him many friends who shared adventures with him as he lived each day fully.  Even while challenged by health issues, George never lost his laughter or his ability to get others smiling, dancing, and loving.

A devoted son, George had a special and close relationship with his mother, Betty, who survives him.  Preceded in death by his father, Denman, George is survived by his partner Paul Riensche, Grand Junction; his siblings, Sue Shields, Grand Junction; John Chapman (Mary), Grand Junction; Joanne Braucht (Richard), Cotopaxi; Robin Hamilton (Scott), Denver; James Chapman, Silver City, New Mexico; Barbara Daitch (Mark), San Diego, California; three nephews and five nieces and one great-nephew.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Western Colorado AIDS Project (West CAP), 805 Main Street, Grand Junction, CO 81501.

A celebration of George’s life will be held Monday, June 1st from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
