Gertrude Kavanagh Tribute

Good morning, my beautiful mama. I went to bed last night knowing that when I woke up, I would be one year older, but my biggest wish is that I made you so very happy 40 years ago today, when you got to hold me in your arms for the first time. I know how much of a big deal you always made about birthdays and I miss you terribly today. I never understood the significance of how important this day was to you until I had my own child, and now it is too late to tell you that in person. I miss you so much and my birthday wish is that you are happy in the presence of your friends and family around you and not missing us too much. I know we will be reunited some day and I will get to see your beautiful face again, but nothing can make up for the hole in my heart I have for you today. I love you very much mam, and miss you every single day, lots of love, Elaine xxx

Hi mam,
I haven't written in a while, although I check in every now and again to look at your photos and think about you. I came across this beautiful poem yesterday:

I thought of you with love today,
but that is nothing new.
I thought about you yesterday,
and the day before that, too.
I think of you in silence,
I often say your name,
But all I have is memories
and your picture in a frame.
Your memory is my keepsake,
with which I'll never part.
God has you in his keeping,
I have you in my heart.

I shed tears for what might have been,
a million times I've cried.
If love alone could have saved you,
you never would have died.
In life I loved you dearly,
in death I love you still,
In my heart you hold a place
no one could ever fill.
It broke my heart to lose you,
but you didn't go alone,

the day God took you home.

The Golden Gate stood open
He saw that you were getting tired,
and a cure was not to be,
So He put his arms around you,
and whispered, "Come with Me".
With tearful eyes we watched you suffer
and saw you fade away.
Although we loved you dearly,
we could not make you stay.
Your heart full of love stopped beating
your happy little hands to rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us
that he only takes the best.

It's almost two years mam and I wish I could say it has gotten easier, but something every single day reminds me about you and I miss you so much. Love you always my beautiful mama, your daughter Elaine xxx

Happy 60th birthday my beautiful mama. Not a day goes by when I don't think about you and miss you. They say time heals, but I have such an ache in my heart for you and wish you were here to celebrate this special day with everyone who loves you so much. Aunty Ann and Uncle Reg visited your grave over the weekend and told me that dad has done a great job keeping it looking great. Please look after him today as he tries to celebrate his birthday without you. I hope you're having the best party in the world right now, we're all remembering and celebrating you today, I love you mam and miss you every single day, lots of love, Elaine xxx

Gertrude,when I think of you I think of the wonderful homemaker you were. You were always busy doing something. Never phased by a house full of people to feed. I hope you are at peace now. I know you have left a big void in many people's lives.
