About

Daughter, friend, & mentor

Gina C. Johnson, 33, of Media, manager of the Starbucks store at 10th and Chestnut Streets, died in a one-car crash near Greensboro, N.C.

Ms. Johnson was a passenger and one of three people in the car who died in the accident on I-85, the Greensboro News & Record reported.

The rented van was traveling north in the left lane after 11 p.m. when it approached a curve to the right, police told the newspaper. The van "went straight and off the road," the newspaper reported, became airborne, flew 98 feet over a grassy median, and landed on the northbound lane of U.S. 29-70, which runs beneath the interstate. It then flipped and caught fire.

A 1993 graduate of Penncrest High School, Ms. Johnson graduated from Shippensburg University in 1997.

For about seven years before joining Starbucks, she was a banquet manager for Spirit of Philadelphia, a sightseeing ship on the Delaware River.

Through the volunteer organization Philadelphia Cares, Ms. Johnson was a mentor to underprivileged children, said her mother, Deborah Margulies.

I Miss Your Smile

Gina, you are the best example of a Starbucks Partner. You were always a pleasure to visit and you would brighten my day with your smile. I always think about you. You will always be in my heart.

Gina, you have always been, and shall always be, my "all-American girl". You made an remarkable impression on me the day I interviewed you oh so many years ago. I knew just then that you were one to always be treasured. I shall never forget that constant smile and positive attitude, throughout your sales and food and beverage career on the SOP. Thank you for all the laughs, hugs, smiles, and memories I shall cherish for the remainder of my life. You truly made an impact on my life, and many, many others, Gina. Forever, Brian Reaver

Back in the Day...

Melissa Fenno Mar 24, 2009

Gina,

Though it's been years since we last saw each other, my memories of you are very vivid. You were always so fun to be around and never failed to leave me doubled over with laughter.

Maybe one day, we'll meet again and share a glass of sweet tea and a few good belly laughs.

Love,
Melissa

George Adams (Apr 11, 2009)

The sweetest young lady I have had the privilege of working with. She was the Spirit on the Spirit of Philadelphia, able to calm escalations, able to sedate, with a smile, the most nervous of passengers. I knew as I drove down the river that there was one less thing to concern myself with when Gina was in charge on the decks! You will be missed by many young lady. you have touched the hearts of all you have ingratiated yourself with. Thank you for allowing me to know you. Rest in peace...
