On October 27th 1926, Gloria Patricia Elmore Butler was born in Atmore, Alabama. She was the pride and joy of departed parents Tennie C. Lambert Elmore and Oliver Charles Elmore. During her formative years, Gloria attended Pleasant Hill School in Atmore Alabama. Subsequently, Gloria relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio and established employment as a professional maintenance cleaner until retirement. It was also during this period, that she gave her heart and hand in marriage to her husband, the late Raymond Butler. This union beget the late Raymond Michael Butler and daughter Adriane Butler.
Some people make the world special by simply being in it. Gloria Patricia Elmore Butler epitomized this concept. She enjoyed reading books, especially romance and mystery novels. Her enthusiasm for movies was evident by her frequent visits to the Regal Theater in West End. Gloria also derived a great deal of joy from traveling around the country, especially to visit her grandchildren and extended family members. In her spare time, Gloria loved cooking. Her sweet potato pie and delicious pancakes kept folks constantly begging for more.
Throughout her 82 years, her relationship with Christ has been a consistent source of comfort and enjoyment. For most of her adult life, Gloria attended worship services at Saint Mary Baptist Church and only illness kept her from attending her beloved Sunday devotion services. She was an active member of the Willing Workers church group and took great pleasure in her church affiliations.
Gloria Patricia Elmore Butler’s remarkable lineage includes: siblings Olive M. Joyner (deceased), Titus Elmore (deceased), Nellie Lee Miles of Atmore Alabama, Georgia Owens (deceased), and Val Jean (Butch) and Nancy Elmore of Cincinnati. Her grandchildren include: Michelle J. Butler of Cincinnati, Starling Hudson of Atlanta, Tiffani Butler of Bloomington Indiana, and Raegan Butler of New Orleans. Gloria also leaves behind two step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family members and devoted friends.
