In the 60's I saw the movie "Zulu" and I recall an earlier movie involving the Zulus called "The Untamed." Then in the 80's I saw "Shaka Zulu" and "Zulu Dawn." 3 out of 4 are in my permanent collection. Henry Cele's portrayal of KIng Shaka was compelling and I was shocked to hear of his passing almost 3 years after he died. I would have wished him a long and happy life so I am still sad to know that he left this Earth much too soon.
So many of the movies of my childhood portrayed Native Americans and Native African Tribes as violent savages. "Shaka Zulu" told a story of a civilization with traditions, laws, and a political structure. No different from other nations and empires throughout history.
Thank you again Henry. I will always watch you as Shaka for the rest of my life.
Thank You For A Great Performance
