Ringmer

Tributes have poured in for a 27-year-old amateur footballer who died after collapsing on the pitch.

Herve King, a former Croydon Athletics player from Wellesley Road, collapsed on the pitch 17 minutes into a game in Crawley on Saturday.

The data analyst had been playing for Ringmer FC against Three Bridges.

He was treated on the pitch and taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, where doctors continued CPR. He was pronounced dead at about 4.45pm.

The incident has stunned supporters and people at the football ground where the mood was sombre even before the death was announced. Many left the ground in floods of tears.

We all felt the tragic pain but we know that the God we serve he is faithful and we know herve is resting in peace and that same God has granted the king family with peace. Herve you will be missed but never forgotton and always be loved. love always cynthia

Forever Remembered

Ric Carlucci Mar 19, 2008

I was Herve's Captain for his 1st under 15's sunday league football team, Rosedene Rovers FC and remember the 1st day I arrived for training. Herve was so welcoming to me, I was shy and unsure but just wanted to play football and all Herve had for me was praise even though I was very nervous and making loads of mistakes he said to me ''at least you have the guts to try'' and that has been a mantra for the rest of my life. I had the honor to play football with and socialise with Herve for 5 years, he showed respect to me and my family and my mum would always sponsor him in charity events!!! the biggest regret I have is the fact that I could not make his funeral as I was myself in hospital having an operation but that won't stop me remembering him everytime I watch his beloved Arsenal. Herve always said to me I was the greatest captain and goalkeeper he had ever seen, so I would like to take this opportunity to hand over my past captaincy to the true heartbeat of our former club, the biggest lover of the greatest game I have or will ever know, Rest In Peace my friend.
