I met Irene in 1996 when I first started at Hughes, right out of college. I was so nervous to be in the workforce, and Irene was such a warm and kind soul who helped us young ones adjust. Plus she always made us laugh! That made getting through the long work days much easier. One thing about Irene is-you just wanted to be around her...you wanted to talk to her, and listen to her. I know she is missed, and send my thoughts and prayers to all her family and friends.
I first met Irene when I came back to work for Boeing in 2000. A sweeter more sincere bright ray of sunshine has never existed. She will be missed by all those she knew and touched over the years. Irene was not just a friend she was someone whose heart was as big as the outdoors and she never failed to let you into it. We all loved her.
I met Irene in the Mechanism group back in 1996. Right from the very start Irene made me feel welcomed. Irene, Fay, Robin and I would take 50 minute( or more) walks which were really morale boosters for all of us. There was lots of good natured joking and fun. These were good memories for me. Irene had a very young and vibrate spirit and she will be missed.
I never got a chance to really know Aunt Irene. I do remember the hugs when she did visit Louisiana. I know my grandmother Honey is really missing her. Just wanted to say you have my sympathy. Love you Aunt Irene.
Thanks to everyone who has visited and left comments on this memorial site. I am truly touched and uplifted by all of the heartfelt comments. Obituaries for Irene were recently published in the Daily Breeze (Los Angeles South Bay area) and the Houma Daily Courier (My mom's hometown paper). Please find the links below:
Although I did not know Irene, her son Rick is one of my very closest friends. She must have been a great person and mother because Rick is a tremendously wonderful individual. I was sad that I was unable to attend the service due to a recent surgery, but my thoughts and prayers were with Rick and his family. May the Lord bless and keep each of you. Growing up in Louisiana, I never got a chance to experience life with Aunt Irene on a day to day basis. What I do remember, about her, is EVERYTIME that I did see her, she had the warmest smile you ever wanted to see and the most pleasant persona.
Indeed sometimes it's the just little things that will forever play in our head about you. Like just seeing you smile, or just hearing the laugther in your voice, but most importantly Aunt Irene; I will always remeber the happiness in your eyes.
I worked with Irene when I first started Hughes in 1979. It didn't take long to realize what a nice and friendly person was, and to everybody. She was the type of person that make work enjoyable with her beautiful smile and sweet disposition. I last saw Irene about 5 years ago and didn't have time at that moment to really talk, I wish now I had.
My condolences go out to her friends and family, she will be truly missed. God Bless.
Your sweetness and your grace will never be forgotten, and your love will endure many challenging times ahead. Thanks for being my co-worker at Boeing, as well as my partner as we served together as deacons, you being the leader of Flock #2 at Knox Presbyterian Church. But most of all a friend that I could share life experiences with. And certainly someone that I could cry with, as well as joke and act silly, regardless of what others might say or think. Even the sanctuary at Knox was not off limits to our fondness to amuse each other, and produce a smile. I guess your sister Frances put it best one Sunday when her and I were walking to greet you in the parking lot. She said " Jeff here comes your partner in crime". And the only crime that you have been guilty of is making us all laugh and smile, what a rap sheet to have entering into the pearly gates of heaven. Thanks Irene "My Deacon Partner".
