Uncle Jack
He was a typical Attwell, always wanted and got his own way,,,
However he was a truly remarkable character in everything he attempted and wouldn't let anything beat him, even his wheelchair !
I remember him mostly for his various trips HOME to the Midlands, even one time in his so called "Cripple Car" of the blue shade, lol.... with Barry sitting beside him on a small stool made from a milk crate,, no mean feat in the days before the M1 !
The times we used to go visit them in Horden and blackhall Rocks and Seaton Carew, when he would be waiting on his sticks and with that smile on his face, he always looked forward to seeing us, and I remember one time especially when he let me and my brother Tony have a drive of his Ford Zodiac with Hand Controls,,, WOW,,, something different back in the early '70's.
So many memories, so little space to list them all,,,,
I am glad to say that I managed to see him and Aunty Elizabeth and introduce my new Partner Rose to them in June this year (2008) and feel privileged to have had that opportunity.
We may not have seen each often, but I feel we had a great bond especially when he knew I made the effort to call round in my lorry for a quick cuppa, and I just wish it could have been more often !
Rest in peace Uncle Jack, great man, gone but never forgotten.
