Jack was called home to be with the Lord on June 13, 2012. His loving Reno family was by his bedside. He was predeceased by his son, Steve on April 2, 2012. Jack is survived by his wife, Wanda and their three sons Wayne, Norman and Cory, 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. At the Age of 12 Jack was moved by his family from Little Rock, AR to Los Angeles, CA. Jack and Wanda were married on October 3, 1942. He served 3 years in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the "Hunter Liggett" troop transport in the South Pacific from 1943 to 1946. He then worked in the field of trnsportation for the next 35 years to keep his 4 sons in shoes, jeans and Big Macs. His last place of employment was Superior Fast Freight where he held the position of V.P. of Adminstration. On retirement he and Wanda found an ideal spot to spend their "golden years". A small country town called Rancho California which became Temecula. There was one bank, two signals and maybe three churches. The population was around 5000. Jack loved the area that Temecula has become. His last wish was to visit their home in Temecula for Father's Day. Jack truly enjoyed all the happy gatherings at their home for 25 years. It was the place for the whole family to come and share the good times. Grand children grew up there followed by the great grandchildren of course. There will be a memorial celebration of life in Temecula on Saturday July 7th at 2PM for family and friends. Please contact Cory Nichols at 775-787-6844 if you would like to attend.

About

Hobbies and special interests

Jack enjoyed playing tennis and softball in his younger days.  When he reached his 60's and beyond he enjoyed sipping fine wine in the back yard counting grass blades thinking and thinking some more.  One of his favorite hobbies of late was cranking out crossword puzzles.  He also loved those family BBQ's.

Memories

Cory

Cory Nichols Jun 20, 2012

What a journey of life for my dad. Best dad, husband, grandpa in the world. I miss him but have countless memories of good times. I was glad to be there during his finish on earth and fulfill his desire to finish life somewhere comfortable. He told me a few years ago he hoped he would never end up in a nursing home when it came time to die. We actually had some good times during the past few months. Mom, Gayle and I provided anything he wanted for meals and drinks. His favorite breakfast became red eggs, toast and cowboy coffee. Red eggs were scrambled eggs smothered with ketchup. He loved the weekly special, spaghetti on Wednesdays. And Donuts on Saturday morning. His new favorite BBQ sauce was Bone Daddy's BBQ sauce. He had to give up Chardonay but was able to swallow White Zin which worked. Toward the end he couldn't keep track of the days but he was able to associate the weekly special with Wednesday, and Donuts with Saturdays. Bittersweet now. Miss him here with me, but glad he's enjoying life in Heaven with the Savior.
