I remember staying up till 11 pm on Saturday nights (before cable) to watch James Cagney in movies like "Each Dawn I Die" and "Roaring Twenties" on the local TV station as a teenager. I read his autobiography as soon as it was published (late 70s?).
He is my favorite actor. There was something riveting about him. I found it hard - and still do - to take my eyes off him when he is on the screen. He is unique and I don't think any of the stars of today equal him in talent, and versatility.
His friend, Patrick O'Brien called him "the faraway fella" because he was a pensive and spiritual man. Everyone who knew him loved him.

I never knew him personally, but I miss him.
