About
Reaching to the top
James Nasti had been on an 11-year quest to climb the highest points in all 50 states. Upon reaching his 49th high point the father of three collapsed and died on the summit of Mt. McKinley in Alaska, apparently of a heart attack. He had only White Butte, N.D., left to scale.
His body could not be recovered. Instead,he was buried there by members of his expedition.
The quest to reach the peak began June 20 (and was to last 23 days), when James and his friend joined three other climbers and two guides.
To reach the summit, the group had to be divided into two and roped together for safety as they walked along a 500-foot pass that is known as a knife's edge because it is only two or three feet wide.
The trip is taxing for even the most experienced climber.
James was athletic, loving camping, sports and photography. He worked as the senior finance manager at Kraft Foods.
He lived taking up challenges and died doing what he loved.
He'll be always missed by his family and friends.
