Unnecessary Death

SIMCOE - The man who died shortly after being tasered by OPP officers yesterday has been identified as Jeffrey Mark Marreel, 36, of no fixed address.

According to John Yoannou of the Special Investigations Unit, Marreel was tasered following a confrontation with five officers at the intersection of Front Rd. and Fishers Glen Rd. in Norfolk.

After his arrest, he was taken to the Simcoe provincial police station. It is there that he fell into “medical distress” approximately an hour after being tasered.

He was transported to Norfolk General Hospital where he died roughly an hour later.

Autopsy results have proved inconclusive and Yoannou said the coroner has ordered further forensic testing.

It is awful that police can get away with this. They deserve to be punished for this horrible crime.
