A 19-year-old Orange County man has drowned after becoming entangled in an anchor line in the Colorado River near Needles.

San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Arden Wiltshire says several people flagged down deputies on boat patrol Sunday afternoon and told them a man had "gone under the surface of the water and not come up."

Deputies found Jeffrey Thomas Bice of Anaheim about 5 feet under the surface and were able to cut him free. Deputies started CPR and Bice was pronounced dead at a Needles hospital less than an hour after he was pulled from the water.

Coroner's deputies say the drowning appears to be accidental.
