About

Music Legend

Jim Hager, half of the Hager Twins who rose to fame doling out one-liners on the old Country Music television series “Hee Haw”, passed away in Nashville last week after collapsing in a coffee shop.

Hager, who was 66, was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, but no cause of death has been released yet.

The twins, who were also guitarists and drummers, rose to national fame as original cast members of “Hee Haw,” a Nashville-based television show in 1969. With its mixture of music and Country-flavored humor, the series was a huge hit. The show was a Country knock-off of “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In”.

“People laughed at themselves,” Jim Hager said in a 1988 interview with The Associated Press. “They liked the chemistry on the show and the fast pace.”

The jokes “were not all platinum,” he said. “The writers count on the person delivering the line to pull it off. It was cornball, no denying it.”

The Hager twins were born in the Chicago area, and lived in Los Angeles before “Hee Haw.” They said in 1988 that they had been together all their lives except for three and a half years, after Jon left Los Angeles and moved to Nashville. Jim remained on the West Coast, but eventually followed.

Memories

To John and Jim: Thank you sirs.

Glenda Nov 10, 2011

They were good entertainers, but they both served in Vietnam. Thank you both for fighting for our freedoms. It is men and women like yourselves that make this country free. So thank you. I know as a christian that you both are together again with a multitude of other christians singing together for our lord. You two were christians becuase it showed in how gratefull you were to everyone. God blesses a cheerful giver, and you two gave of yourself so openly, you never met anyone that wasnt a friend. I only wish I'd have met you. I remember you in Hee Haw when I was a kid. I am a return fan, being 40 I can remember a lot about them on Hee Haw. They were just two ordinary guys who gave of themselves to other people. My condolensces go out to there families. I lost my mother two months before Jim Died. So my prayers are with your families. John I pray for your two daughters Amanda and Jessyca, I hope they know that they will see you again becuase of jesus. You two arent in the grave, you are living in heaven and having a good time together as you should be as twins, brothers and friends, and still singing. Live it up, heaven is a great retirement plan!! see you when I get there and thank you....

I was only 16!!

Tammy May 16, 2008

I met Jim and Jon backstage at the Grand Ole Opry while they were doing the Grand Ole Gospel Time show. I was there with my family and my dad being a musician and producer played w/George Jones, Marty Robbins, and several others but my dad had introduced me to Jim and Jon, Of course being like 5 I had a crush on them. But when I was 16 looking like I was 20 or so, Jim looked at me and the words that came out of my dad's mouth was"Jim she is only 16" Jim just looked at me in amazement and he said "Darlin, come find me when you are 18" He was so sweet. He even apologized to my mom. We all had a great laugh.. He was a very sweet man. I will miss him greatly and regret that I never got to see him again after that. But, Jim will be greatly missed in our family because my dad knew them well. I will miss you Jim...

The cute guys on Hee Haw

alice May 11, 2008

I just remember how cute these 2 guys presented their selves on Hew Haw. I also enjoyed a detective movie the 2 boys did. I hope Jon finds the peace he needs to continue on his life journey. I also hope Jon will keep his spirit alive and continue on as his brother would have intended.May the lord have give you the comfort you need in a time of your loss.
