Mrs. Davis was a striking woman in many regards. She worked hard on behalf of her constituents and attained a great deal of stature on the Committee on Foreign Affairs, meeting with heads of state and foreign dignitaries as a matter of course. Nevertheless, she remained grounded and was gracious, down-to-earth and wholeheartedly approachable to everyone. She had sparkling brown eyes, a dazzling smile, and a wonderful sense of humor. I found her to be an inspirational role model on the Hill and even more so in her battle against breast cancer. Her passing is a great loss to many of us who admired her and a stark reminder that the battle against breast cancer is not a discriminatory one and one that we now must continue to fight in her memory.
I remember meeting Congresswoman Davis for the first time. I shook and stuttered profusely. She shook her hand and gently said, "Hi! Just call me JoAnn, it's ok." and gave me a hug and thanked me for her support.
She was a very classy lady and beautiful from the inside out. I will miss her deeply.
Jo Ann took time out to answer letters written to her about various causes.
She was a role model as a RE agent and a public servant.
The world needs more people like her.
She led an exemplary life here.
She will be missed here!
Her spirit lives on in the lives she impressed!
