Lost in Combat

The Army says a 23-year-old Fort Hood soldier has died in Afghanistan of injuries from a non-combat-related incident.

Pvt. John A. Mattox of Daingerfield, Texas, died Aug. 10 at Forward Operating Base Bostick, Afghanistan. The Army statement provides no details on the fatal incident, but states that it's under investigation.

Mattox was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 4th Cavalry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, of Fort Hood.
