Jonathan Minchew

18 year old Jonathan was killed in a head-on collision.

Capt. Keith Longlois with the Orange Police Department says Jonathan Minchew, 18, of Orange, was killed, and David Carthel, 38, of Orange, was hurt in the head-on collision at about 10 p.m. Tuesday in the 8500 block of FM 1130 in Orange, near Ben Mac Road, along an area known as Stephenson's Curve.

Capt. Longlois says Carthel was traveling north in a 1993 white Jeep Cherokee, when his vehicle crossed the center line and moved into the path of a green 1994 Ford Taurus driven by Minchew.

Carthel was transported to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth by a medical helicopter. The full extent of his injuries aren't known.

The Orange Fire Department used the jaws of life to free Carthel from the wreckage.

Minchew was pronounced dead by Judge Joe F. Parkhurst, Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace.

The accident remains under investigation by the Orange Police Department.

At times I don't think I can bare the loss.....you were only 18 when you were ripped from our lives by a drunk driver..David Carthel.....I thought it would get better once he was convicted for his crime and sent to prison...but it has left me numb..foe he has no remorse other than he didn't want to go to prison.... The hoildays are quickly coming upon us......your son Jonathan Thurl Minchew Jr will be a little over 15 months old this Christmas....he looks so much like you...he is such a blessing you left behind....I pray that he becomes the man you were. You had a heart of gold and you would have been such a great father if you would have been given the chance. I am so thankful that we talked on the phone that one last time......your voice echos in my mind...I love you too... Mom. Son,... I know you are in a better world......I pray the Lord takes me home soon so I can see you again soon....I love you son.....

things will never be the same without you....if only we could see you one last time, just to say how much we love you....you were an amazing man and its sad that we will never see your face again....
