About

'Dottie'; an Earth Angel

Gospel singer and songwriter Joyce “Dottie” Rambo died Sunday morning in a car accident. The 74-year-old was killed when her tour bus ran off the road and hit an embankment in Missouri. Seven other passengers on the bus suffered injuries and were hospitalized.

Rambo was traveling to Nashville for a Mother’s Day performance when the accident happened. More than 2,500 of Rambo’s songs have been published. She was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame last year.

Country music star Dolly Parton had recorded several of Rambo’s song. Parton released a statement offering her condolences. “I know Dottie is in heaven in the arms of God right now, but our earth angel will surely be missed. Dottie was a dear friend, a fellow singer, songwriter and entertainer, and as of late my duet singing partner,” Parton said.

A Special Angel

Lena Nov 22, 2008

Dottie's legacy and music will be with us forever; what a tremendously talented & faith filled lady. She loved the Lord more than anything, and it truly showed in her songs. I will miss you Miss Dottie.

My Memory

Gospel music has truely loss a angel. I remember listening to Dottie when I was 17 at first. She was one of those people although you did not know her personally you wanted her to pass by and smile as if she was so proud of you. Her music lives on forever and the songs she has blessed us with will forever bring great joy to all who hear. Sing with the angels Dottie.

My Memory

Meg Delo May 18, 2008

I have cherished Dottie and her music ,as well as her wonderful sense of humor, for many years now. A favorite memory, though, is one of when my youngest daughter Jana was about 6 years old. We went to hear Dottie sing in a local church that morning, and afterwards, I think the entire congregation swarmed around her in hopes of meeting her or getting an autograph. My little girl didn't even have a chance to get to her....UNTIL Dottie spotted her and asked everyone to "step aside and let this little girl come through to me". It makes me think of when Jesus beseeched the little children to come to him! Jana is a grown woman and wife and mother of two now, and I don't think she'll ever forget how very special Dottie made her feel that day! She was a tiny little lady, but she was BIG in Jesus! I know all of Heaven's angels must be singing her songs now and "glorying in the cross" with her! Our love and prayers go out to Reba and Dony, Destiny and Israel and all the rest of her family and friends at this sad time. Our loss is most assuredly Heaven's gain!!! ~Meg Delo~

Role Model

Mary Ragan May 17, 2008

Growing up Christian music was the only music allowed in our house. As a teenager I was often made fun of because I collected Christian LP's. Now I know how blessed I was to have Christian artists as my musical role models. Dottie Rambo was tops on that list. A few years ago she appeared at a high school in the small town of Elma, Washington. My cousins and I had the pleasure of meeting her. During the concert she asked for requests from the audience. I shouted out "I Heard Footsteps". The memories of singing that song along with her will be imprinted on my heart forever. Thanks Dottie. And thank you God for sharing her with us on earth.
