SMILING and happy, snapped in her role as a bridesmaid, this is the first picture of tragic Kelly McKitten.

Popular Ms McKitten was murdered at her County Durham home on Wednesday.

Stuart Cummings, 26, from Derwent Close in Sacriston, was last night charged with her murder.

He was arrested earlier this week and taken to Durham City police station for questioning. He was due to appear before Consett magistrates today.

Officers launched their investigation on Wednesday morning after the 31-year-old was found by paramedics.

It is thought her two sons had been in the house, close-by in another room.

They are now being looked after by family members living near to Ms McKitten’s home in Gardiner Crescent, Pelton Fell.

Just hours after her death, officers carried out detailed searches of the property and front garden, overlooking a green in the centre of the crescent.

Officers cordoned off the terrace house and the road leading to it, protecting the crime scene.

Alongside police tape, friends of Ms McKitten have placed floral tributes. One reads: “Now heaven has a new angel to keep.”

Her sudden death has shocked the quiet community in the village close to Chester-le-Street.

Young mother Kirsty Herbert, from Pelton Fell, said: “Kelly was a lovely girl.

“The whole village is in a state of shock about her death.”
