Kelsea Phelps Tribute

Kelsea died due to an accidental overdose of methadone pills.

According to testimony at a preliminary hearing earlier this year, Wion admitted to investigators that she gave Phelps a bottle of methadone and penicillin pills for a sore throat when the girl visited her daughter on Aug. 21, 2006.

Wion, a mother of three from Santee, broke into tears when told the girl died of a methadone overdose hours later, Department of Justice Special Agent Jeanie Franco-Quick testified.

Defense attorney Michael Malowney told a judge that Kelsea''s death was an accident, saying there was no evidence Wion knew it was dangerous to give the victim methadone since Wion took it regularly with a doctor''s prescription.
