Born Claudia Alta Taylor, her nursemaid thought she was as pretty as a 'ladybird'. As an adult she married Lyndon Baines Johnson who became president after the assasination of President Kennedy. As First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson was known for her efforts to beautify the physical surrounding of Washington DC, and was instrumental in the creation of the Highway Beautification Act.
