About
A New Hope
Lorenzo Odone, whose parents’ battle to save him from a nerve disease was the subject of the movie “Lorenzo’s Oil,” died on May 30th. He was 30.
He had recently come down with pneumonia, his father, Augusto Odone, said.
At 5, Lorenzo was found to have adrenoleukodystrophy, a rare hereditary children’s disease. He was given only a few years to live.
Augusto Odone and his wife, Michaela, formulated a blend of erucic and oleic acids found in cooking oils that they said helped their son fight the disease.
A study published in 2005 said that the oil might delay the disease in boys in which it had not yet caused symptoms.
In the 1992 film, Susan Sarandon and Nick Nolte portrayed Lorenzo’s parents. Ms. Odone died of lung cancer in 2000.

Before I never heard of adrenoleukodystrophy(ALD), and never knew about Lorenzo or his family.
I'd came home and felt something inside to research this and I did, I felt & did cry about this tragic story, I know I'm a year and some months to late but I understand these people and felt their motivation pain.
I just want people to know life, no matter who's life, is precious not matter the condition of the 'bright life'.

How Beautiful Your Love Was For Lorenzo
Gisele May 02, 2009
It's essencial to fight for somebody that you love and for more that seems impossible to never give up. You are the heroes (Mr. & Mrs. Odone) and an example to all!! Thank you so much for allowing Hollywood to make a film that showed your courage and strength to tell the story of your son.
I'm sorry for your son's recent death, however, through him the cure to touch those who have the beginning of the disease will prevent many other deaths. In closing, my name is Gisele Cristiane. I am from Brasil and I felt compassion to write the two of you to express my heart felt love for your son and his battle of this terrible disease.
I do apologize for my english, as I am still learning language. My husband has helped me with my grammar and spelling.
God bless you, my sincerely feelings .....................
