On the night of 6 March 2008 a single gunman infiltrated the yeshiva and began firing at occupants, killing at least eight and wounded as many as 40 others, including three students in critical condition, before he was killed. Witnesses said the gunman was dressed like a yeshiva student.
Yitzhak Dadon, a part-time student, said the gunman was armed with a Kalashnikov rifle. Dadon waited on the roof of a nearby building. "He came out of the library spraying automatic fire ... the gunman came to the entrance and I shot him twice in the head, [Dadon] said."Another witness told Israel TV that he heard both single shots and automatic gunfire from inside the building, and it went on about 10 minutes.Security officials said the terrorist was a resident of East Jerusalem
