Teen killed in rascist attack

Mohammed Al Majed, 16, who was learning English at a summer school, was murdered on Hastings seafront by a gang of white youths, police believe.

He is understood to be the son of a wealthy family in the Gulf state of Qatar. Friends last night described him as "like a brother to everyone".

Mohammed and his classmates, who were in the last week of a course at the EF Languages School, were attacked as they left a social club for foreign students shortly before midnight on Friday.

The youths repeatedly stamped on Mohammed's head and he died in hospital. Detectives are treating it as a racially motivated murder.

The group had been at the club, which incorporates a kebab shop, owned by Remzi Tanriverdi. He said he had warned police of the troublemakers hours before the attack.

The 43-year-old, who used to work for the UN in Turkey, said trouble started after a pair of local teenagers started drinking cans of lager on the picnic benches outside. They were soon joined by two more youths.

Mr Tanriverdi asked them to leave but they refused and shouted abuse at him. "After I asked them to leave, I noticed a police car pull up, so I spoke to the officers. I asked them to keep an eye on the boys. Less than an hour later, Mohammed – who was like a brother to everyone – had been beaten to death by those boys."

Three men aged 17, 18 and 20 have been arrested over the attack and granted bail.

In response to the claim that police were warned about the gang of youths, a spokesman for Sussex Police said: "There is no way of confirming or denying whether officers spoke to any particular member of the public. However this is a heavily-patrolled area of the town centre."

May Allah give him a good reward

Omar Sep 07, 2008

I previously left a comment on here, it was only short. What I'd like to say now is hat I am in total agreement with some people who left messages on here, basically that if this situation had been different and things had been the other way around can you imagine the outcry?! If for example God forbid an Arab or for that matter any other foreign student had even dared to stick up for themselves and defend themselves and a local youth had been killed in the process the not only local but Nnational British newspapers and whole media for that matter would be 'up in arms' as it were. That's all I wanted to say really as as usual the same old mentality pervades as things can only work one way, thats the English mentality unfortunately. Does anyone honestly think that if a foreign student had accidentally killed or even injured a local youngster perhaps even not seriously but as a result of defending him/herself it would have been turned on his head and the story would have taken a sinister twist in the media and yet again its 'these foreigners' attacking our sweet youth. Please don't anybody misunderstand what I'm trying to get at, it's just that I;m sick and tired of this basically racist mentality, I was born here and have lived in England all my life, as I mentioned in a previous post on here I lived in Hastings and St Leonards for about 7 years perhpas slightly more, this country has given a lot to me, but at the same time has taken things from me, I'm not trying to sound ungrtateful, but it'a always 'don't say we don't look after you' kind of mentality, like you shouldn't bite the hand that feeds you but quite frankly thats nonsense, because as as soon as you dont start towing the line and 'behaving' yourself you get grief for it. I know how people here operate because I'm basically half English on my Mother's side, but I've seen the attitude so many times it can't be a coincidence, so its basically case of 'shut up and be happy', but to be honest with whoevere has taken the time to read this I'm rather sick and tired of this 'how much wev'e done for you' mentality and attitude. How many more youngsters God forbid will it take who have to lose their lives and be injured some for life until this 'wer'e white so it's okay' attitude stops?!?!?

from the holly land the middle east my thanks

Naser kuwait Sep 04, 2008

First I send my thanks from the land of Jesus and Moses and Mohammed and as you know Christianity and Jewish and Islam came 3 of them from the middle east and you can say Jesus is a middle eastern and the holy land also in the middle east as the church of nativity in the middle east my respect to the peoples of Hastings
Who attend 2 minute silence in the memory of Mohammed Al Majed also the media who cover the news about the hateful crime I pray May his Soul rest in peace and God bless all
This racial offensive behavior is kind of sickness even this violent is dangerous to the local community we learned this racial hate motivated countries like Germany to attack other nation as Hitler the Nazi did and attacked England as one of his victims I hope as the
community leaders say Get rid of racism in Hastings.

Expat Resident in Qatar

RIP Mohammed. It’s really saddening to hear about this 16 year old teenager. Everyone is in shock out here. I have been following the news ever since this inhumane incident has occurred. My condolences to the family of Mohammed, Allah give them the strength to over come the pain on their heavy hearts. Its strange but true that white skin are treated like Gods out here (Qatar)…..this word racism is never spoken of in this part of the world. The English (racist) should be ashamed of themselves……Allah Hu Akbaar

I used to live there, but its worse now.

Allah grant him Paradise, Ameen.
