Ralph Ezell Tribute

Ralph Ezell, the original bass player for country band Shenandoah, died Friday, Nov. 30 in South Dakota, of an apparent heart attack. He was 54.

As a member of Shenandoah, Ezell scored hits including "Sunday In The South," "Two Dozen Roses" and "Church On Cumberland Road." He also played on recordings by Dobie Gray, Marty Stuart and others, and he was an assistant engineer on the Oak Ridge Boys' "Bobbie Sue" album.



"Our entire Shenandoah family is deeply saddened by the unexpected loss of our brother and friend, Ralph Ezell," said band member Mike McGuire, in a statement. "Everyone that knew him knew how full of energy he was on and off stage, and we will miss him more than words can say."
