Reis Family Tribute

Sherry Reis and her three children, Tim Reis, Virginia Reis and Emily Reis were killed in a fire in their apartment building on Townline Road in the small town of Byron, Genesee County.

Firefighters were not allowed into the building at first because it was too dangerous. It wasn''t until this afternoon that they found all four victims.

Neighbors say they woke up from the screams, coming from inside the burning apartment. The fire started in apartment two, either on the first floor or in the basement. There was a slight power outage around the area at the same time the 911 call came in. The building was built in the 1970s and built without fire walls. The fire chief says that explains why the fire was able to jump from one apartment to the next. He also believes the cause might be electrical but it is not known for sure.
