About

His Story

Beloved Grammy and Tony-award winning singer, actor and Broadway performer Robert Goulet died on October 30, 2007 of pulmonary fibrosis while awaiting a lung transplant.

Born in 1933 in Lawrence, Massachusetts to French-Canadian parents, Goulet's family moved back to Girouxville, Alberta in Canada when Robert was still only 3-months-old. He spent his formative years in Girouxville and later moved to Edmonton with his mother.

In Edmonton, Goulet took broadcast training and was offered a position as a radio announcer at CKUA - the University of Alberta station at the time. He was offered a scholarship to study voice at Toronto's Royal Conservatory of Music.

Goulet is best known for his role in Lerner and Loewe's Camelot which opened in Toronto to rave reviews, then ran in Boston and opened in Broadway shortly after. A virtual unknown, Goulet was cast with Julie Andrews and Richard Burton and his stardom was solidified as the show received excellent reviews from Broadway critics. Most notably, Robert's performance of "If Ever I Would Leave You" brought audiences to their feet.

Goulet was signed to Columbia Records in 1962 and began an extensive music career that would result in 15 albums. Loved by millions, Goulet was awarded a star on Canada's Walk of Fame in 2006.

My KNIGHT in shining armour!

Joy Oakes Feb 07, 2010

Robert, You are always there in my heart...you were always there in my life, and made me feel special. You changed my life, and I love you for that, and will miss you forever--till we meet again, my FRIEND FOREVER! Thank you with a sincere heart.

The King of My Heart

Robert Goullet was a most talented singer/performer. I was able to see him perform only once much to my dismay.

"Camelot" was my favorite show.

I will sadly miss him.

My Goulet

Quite possibly the most quintessential singer ever... stuff like that... Robert Goulet changed my life and I'll never forget him or his Codery of Nerdewells.

So very handsome and talented!!!

Peggy Bowers Nov 01, 2007

I fell in love with Robert Goulet when I was young and have always loved his voice. What a wonderful entertainer. May he rest in peace.
