Stars and Stripes European edition, Sunday, August 24, 2008

The Pentagon announced Friday the death of a 54th Engineer Battalion sergeant first class killed by a mortar attack in Iraq.
Sgt. 1st Class George Stanciel, of Greenwood, Miss., died Aug. 19 at Forward Operating Base Garry Owen, reports said.
A member of the battalion's 370th Engineer Company, Stanciel is the second soldier the unit has lost since leaving on a 15-month tour in May. Part of the 18th Engineer Brigade, the 54th is based in Bamberg, Germany.
A memorial service for Stanciel has been tentatively scheduled for Thursday at the Warner Barracks chapel in Bamberg.

In Memory Of A Hero

Your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

never forgotten

Luke Sep 21, 2011

SFC Stanciel will never be forgotten. I am an Air Force Engineer that built that base where we lost him. He brought us there and came to get us...such a happy go lucky guy who was taken too soon...not a moment passes without remembering him. I am headed to Afghanistan for yet another tour with the Army and cannot help but remembering SFC George Stanciel......Hope you are doing well brother...

Thank you

LeAnn Apr 15, 2010

I never met SFC Stanciel but I am indebted to him and his family for their sacrifice. My husband is currently serving at FOB Gary Owen. I pray every day for all the soldiers that have gone before him and will come after him.
May the family find the peace that SFC Stanciel now has in the hands of the Lord.

Sincerely,
LeAnn Rodriguez

Why =(

Kortney Stanciel Nov 13, 2009

First off i would like too say my name is Kortney Stanciel,
If nobody know who that is, its his oldest son out of 5.
three younger sisters and a younger brother. Nobody hears from
me that much and i never say much but right now i really miss my father.. i though i say a little to show my feelings and my memories towards my father.
i think about my father every morning and night and cry and ask why.?
Why would this happen.? THis really brings me down.. i was born march 7th 1993 and i am only 16..
i really miss my Father and feel my heart is broken at time but the only
thing i can do is keep my head up.. i just really wish he could see me finish school... i only had two more years dad.

Always love and missing you,
Your oldest son,
Kortney=(
