About Scott Blake
Obituary
Scott Leonard blake, the son of Phyllis Anne Kidd, and Scottie L. Blake was born in New York City (Manhattan) on January 7, 1981. Scott accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior early in life, and he was only age 28, when God called him home. He is watching over us.
Most of his childhood years were spent here in Brooklyn, NY. He was an only child from the union of Phyllis & Scottie. Scott leaves to mourn and cherish his memory, sisters on his father's side, Donna Blake, Marie Blake, Samantha Blake, Aunt Pamela Cary, and nieces Paulette and Bria Blake and precious others. Aunt's and Uncle's on his mother's side, Leona Kidd-McClendon, Felicia Moses, Elvin Kidd Jr., Bobby Kidd, and Vincent Kidd. Uncle Stephen Kidd preceded him into the Kingdom of heaven. Nieces Alexandra Kidd, Vanessa Kidd, nephews Vincent Kidd II and Eric Kidd. His loving Grandmother Wilma Kidd and Grandfather Elvin Kidd - just a host of other precious nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who became his soul brothers Lavoy Williams, Olumide Oniyide, Richie Broomes, Jason Tang, Mohamed and Ahmed Salem, John Morates, Chris Bastes, Timothy Koustas, Eric Jaikissoon and Wilson Ndzi. Two of his first cousins, Elvin Kidd III and Justin Kidd always felt like brothers.
Scott treated life as an adventure. His journey gave him many experiences. Scott joined the Fort Lee, NJ Fire Department in May of 1999, as an Auxiliary fireman. He later left Fort Lee to join the U.S. Navy, as an Operations Specialist 3. He served on the frigate USS Hawes, and his ship was the first ship called to return to Yemen to assist the USS Cole following the terrorist attack in Yemen, Port of Aden. While in the Navy he received the Good Conduct Medal, Navy "E" Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Expert Rifleman, and Expert Pistol Ribbons.
After leaving the Navy with an Honorable Discharge, Scott returned to the Fort Lee Fire Department becoming a full member, serving in the Hook & Ladder Co. 3 and he enjoyed being there. Keeping busy - Scott tinted the windows of one of the Company's fire trucks. Still today, it reamins the only fire truck in that Company with tinted windows - that was our Scott. In tribute to Scott that tinted gladd Fire Truck is outside in front of this church today, and many of his fellow fireman whom he respected and cared about are here today to honor him. Scott later graduated from the New York City Police Academy in 2006, and served as a New York City Police Officer. Many of his fellow police officers are also here to honor him today. In November 2008 Scott joined the staff of the United Nations, as a Security Officer. This was one of the happiest days of his life. This was also the last employment that he would have on this earth.
Scott was highly allergic to shellfish. Scott knew his condition better than we did. Yet, he never let any of his personal challenges stop him from pursuing any interest that he had, nor did he let others know when he was weak. That was just his way. If you needed Scott, he was there for you, and he would hurt when he saw mistreatment or indifference to others. He always wanted to help, and he did. For those of us who knew Scott, his passing, although very sad, will leave us with a higher awareness on so many levels. An awareness of our personal responsibility and accountability to ourselves, and to each other. Scott cared about people, and did so much to help anyone in need. He made a difference in this world, touching the lives of so many people. When recently he returned home from visiting Thailand he glowed with even deeper insight and spirituality. Scott was a beautiful and loving person who gave so much. It is only fitting that some of his happiest times would be at the United Nations where he was always reminded of the needs of others and surrounded by worl hmanitarian endeavors. By remembering Scott's compassion, acts of kindness, loving and generous spirit, we will forever keep him alive. He would have wanted it that way.
God makes no mistakes:
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose" ~Romans 8:28
Scott lived a life worth remembering and he will live in our hearts forever.
Just Remember Me
Fill not your hearts with pain & sorrow, but remember me in every tomorrow. Remember the joy, the laughter, the smiles. I've only gone to rest a little while. Although my leaving causes pain & grief. My going has eased my hurt & given me relief. So dry your eyes & remember me, not as I am now, but as I used to be. Because I will remember you all & look on with a smile. Understand, in your hearts, I've only gone to rest a little while. As long as I have the love of each of you, I can live my life in the heart of all of you.
