About

"Psycho"

Sherrill Headrick, a former Dallas Texans and Kansas City Chiefs linebacker, died Wednesday. He was 71.

The team announced Headrick's death. The Kansas City Star reported on its Web site that Headrick died of cancer. Chiefs officials had no details, including where the former TCU star lived or where he died.

Headrick played eight seasons for the Texans/Chiefs franchise. He was selected to five all-AFL squads and started at middle linebacker during the team's AFL title wins in 1962 and 1966, as well as the first Super Bowl.

Nicknamed "Psycho" by his teammates for his aggressive play and personality, he was inducted into the Chiefs Hall of Fame in 1993.

The Waco, Texas, native also played one season in Canada.

Daddy's Friend(2-21-11)

Courtney Henry Feb 22, 2011

Sherrill Headrick was a great man from the way my dad talked about him. I met him a few times and he was a great friend of my dad, Mike Henry. I want to go to TCU thanks to him. You are surely missed Sherrill.

I met Mr. Headrick later in his life, he was the nicest man. He had a great sense of humor and I feel privileged to have known him.

For all the football exploits, it has been left unsaid that as tough as he was in football,he was equally formidable as a Bridge player. After his football years he was a champion bridge player..!!

My memory

Len Nicholson Dec 17, 2010

I met Sherrill in KC when I worked for the Pro Bowlers Tour. He was a real fan of bowling and knew several of the bowling stars. He would sit in the stands all day and root for the guys. He was a great guy and we partied a couple of times together. Lost track of him over the years and thought I would look him up throught the internet. Didn't know that he passed away, so sorry to hear that. God Bless him.
