Obituary

Dezso Greszler

Dezso Greszler, 91, of Henrietta Township was reunited with his wife, Steffie, on the 11th anniversary of her death, October 8, 2008 . He was born August 16, 1917 in Henrietta Township , where he was a 1936 graduate of Henrietta High School . He received an associate degree in business administration from Oxford Institute, Chicago , Illinois in 1938.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1939 and was a first lieutenant with the 517th Parachute Regiment Combat Team. He served overseas in World War II for forty one months including two years in Panama and 17 months in the European Theatre of Operations. He fought in the Ardennes Offensive (Battle Of The Bulge), and in conflicts in Rome Arno, the Rhineland and the Champagne Campaign.  He was decorated for his efforts in the European, African, and Middle Eastern fronts and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in Troix, Belgium. He was employed at General Motors Fisher Body, Elyria for 30 years retiring in 1977. He was also a life long farmer and gardener. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Oberlin and the Knights of Columbus and was a frequent letter contributor to the Chronicle Telegram's editorial pages.

Mr. Greszler will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Priscilla “Pat” (John) Shields of Cleveland; Katherine (Ted) Siller of Henrietta Township; sons Anthony (Terri) Greszler of Hagerstown, Maryland; Kenneth (Cheryl) Greszler and Timothy (Debra) Greszler both of Henrietta Township and Alan Greszler of Bay Village ; 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Dezso is also survived by brothers Joseph of Henrietta Township; Alex of Arizona; Paul of Arkansas; sisters Evelyn and Virginia of Maine; Rose of West Virginia and Caroline of Texas.

Dezso was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Steffie, brothers Peter and Frank, and sisters Teresa, Anna and Margaret.

A Mass of  Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Dezso on  Saturday, November 1, 2008 , at  10:00 a.m. , at Sacred Heart Church , 410 West Lorain Street , Oberlin , OH .  Father Robert Cole will be the celebrant.  Following the Mass, a brunch will be served in the church hall.  The Committal service and Taps will be at 1:30 pm at Dezso's farm, 11621 Baumhart Road.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church or Holy Family Home, 6707 State Rd. , Parma , OH 44134 .
