Breast Cancer Awareness

I've been told by many survivors that I should start getting yearly mammograms; however, 2 oncologists I've spoken to tell me that it is just unnecessary exposure to radiation because I have no family history, I haven't found any lumps and I have small dense breasts. Is anyone else confused by this?
